Austin Russell is founder and CEO of Luminar Technologies, a lidar and autonomous-vehicle sensor company. He left Stanford at 17 on a Thiel Fellowship to build Luminar, developing a proprietary 1550 nm lidar architecture that achieves longer range and higher resolution than conventional designs. Luminar's sensors have been adopted by major automotive OEMs for production vehicles.
