Esther Duflo
RCTs in development economics.
Professor of Poverty Alleviation and Development Economics at MIT and co-director of J-PAL (Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab). She and Abhijit Banerjee were awarded the 2019 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences alongside Michael Kremer for their experimental approach to alleviating global poverty. Her RCT framework transformed development economics from policy advocacy into an evidence-based discipline.
