Geoffrey West
Scale; allometric scaling laws.
Distinguished Professor and former President of the Santa Fe Institute, where he applies physics principles to complex biological and social systems. His research demonstrated that metabolic rate, lifespan, and other biological quantities scale predictably with body mass via quarter-power laws. He extended this framework to urban systems in his 2017 book Scale, arguing that cities and corporations obey analogous mathematical regularities.
