Howard Odum
systems ecology; energy flow diagrams.
Howard T. Odum (1924–2002) was a professor at the University of Florida and a founder of systems ecology. He developed a visual language of energy circuit symbols to map flows through ecosystems and economies. His signature idea, emergy (embodied energy), proposed a unified measure for comparing all forms of energy and resource use in ecological and human systems.
