Johan Rockström is Director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research and Professor of Earth System Science. He led the team that defined and quantified planetary boundaries, a framework now central to global sustainability policy. His work established that several boundaries — including climate, biosphere integrity, and land-system change — have already been breached.
