Leonid Hurwicz

mechanism design founder.

Hurwicz was Regents Professor Emeritus of Economics at the University of Minnesota. He originated mechanism design theory, formalising how economic systems can be constructed so that self-interested agents produce collectively efficient results. He was awarded the 2007 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences alongside Eric Maskin and Roger Myerson, becoming the oldest Nobel laureate in any field at age 90.
