Nadiem Makarim founded Gojek in Indonesia in 2010 and served as its CEO until 2019, when he was appointed Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology under President Joko Widodo. Under his leadership, Gojek grew from a call-centre ride-hailing operation into a super-app spanning transport, food delivery, and digital payments across Southeast Asia. He is credited with pioneering the app-based ojek (motorcycle-taxi) model that became a template for regional super-app expansion.
