Timnit Gebru is founder and executive director of the Distributed AI Research Institute (DAIR), which she established after her high-profile exit from Google's Ethical AI team in 2020. She co-authored foundational research exposing disparity rates in commercial facial-recognition systems and co-wrote the 'Stochastic Parrots' paper critiquing risks in large language models. Her work centres on the harms AI systems impose on marginalised communities.
