Core principles

4 total
  1. Simplicity is key to productivity
  2. Focus on one task at a time
  3. Eliminate distractions
  4. Review and adjust regularly

Steps

4 steps
  1. Collect
Carry a small notebook and write down any tasks, ideas, projects, or other information that pop into your head. Get it out of your head and onto paper, so you don’t forget it.
Pro tipUse a small notebook that you can carry with you everywhere
WarningDon't try to memorize everything, write it down
  2. Process
Make quick decisions on things in your inbox, do not put them off. Process your inboxes (email, physical, voicemail, notebook) at least once a day, and more frequently if needed.
Pro tipUse a simple system for processing your inboxes
WarningDon't let your inboxes pile up, process them regularly
  3. Plan
Set MITs for each week, and each day. Do your MITs early in the day to get them out of the way and to ensure that they get done.
Pro tipUse a simple planner or calendar to set your MITs
WarningDon't overplan, focus on the most important tasks
  4. Do
Focus on one task at a time, without distractions. Eliminate all distractions, then just focus on your task for as long as possible. Don’t let yourself get distracted from it.
Pro tipUse a timer to help you stay focused
WarningDon't try to multitask, focus on one task at a time
