Douglas Hofstadter
Gödel, Escher, Bach; analogy as cognition.
Professor of Cognitive Science at Indiana University, where he directs the Center for Research on Concepts and Cognition. His 1979 book 'Gödel, Escher, Bach: An Eternal Golden Braid' won the Pulitzer Prize and explored how self-referential systems give rise to meaning and mind. His subsequent research argues that analogy is the core engine of human thought.
