Cathy O'Neil holds a Harvard PhD in mathematics and has worked in academia, hedge funds, and data science. Her 2016 book Weapons of Math Destruction became a canonical text on the social harms of big-data algorithms, winning a National Book Critics Circle Award nomination. She founded ORCA (O'Neil Risk Consulting & Algorithmic Auditing) to help organisations audit their models for bias.
