Gary Klein
naturalistic decision making; recognition-primed decision.
Founder of ShadowBox LLC and formerly of Klein Associates, Klein spent decades studying how experts make decisions under pressure in real-world settings. His fieldwork with firefighters, military commanders, and nurses produced the Recognition-Primed Decision model, showing that experts match situations to patterns rather than comparing options analytically. His book 'Sources of Power' (1998) remains a foundational text in decision science.
